The old police station and constable's house in Nant Hall Road , Prestatyn, was built in 1905. Prior to this there was no police station in the town and the one policeman on the beat lived in the end of a row of cottages at the top of the High Street. A police station you would expect would be the last location for a haunting, however, a policeman's wife experienced something very eerie at Prestatyn's old police station buildings in Nant Hall Road, and described her account of what happened and how it was told to me.
"It was April 1966 when my family and I moved to the old police station in Nant Hall Road , Prestatyn. I knew no one in the town and life was very busy with the children, but also lonely at times, especially when my husband was on duty. During this time I began to notice an addition to the household who seemed to stand just to the side or behind me. I never saw her face. I say "her" as I feel she was an old woman dressed in long dark clothes. I was never frightened, more a feeling of friendly company as I was on my own a lot at night. Nothing ever moved, but the kitchen and landing were her favorite "haunts". None of my family were aware of her and we moved away 16 months later.
The house later became the Publicity Offices and I found an excuse to go in there one afternoon. I mentioned to one of the male staff that I had lived there and the man looked horrified and said"nothing would induce me to stay here after dark, this place is haunted". He and I had felt the same thing in the same places. I have since cut through the yard at the side of the building and the feeling that she is still there is very strong, but there is nothing to see".
If you walk along Church Lane off Nant Hall Road the thick bars to the cells of the old police station can still be seen here today. The building is now part of the Citizens Advice Bureau.
