The Walking for Health Initiative is jointly funded by Denbighshire Local Health Group, Countryside Council for Wales and Denbighshire Countryside Service. It is part of a national scheme to promote walking for health in the UK, created and funded by the British Heart Foundation and the Countryside Agency.

The initiative aims to improve the physical health of walkers, however also acknowledges the mental health benefits of walking as part of a group. Therefore, it is expected that the local guided walks will promote social inclusion through the creation of a friendly atmosphere. The role of trained walk leaders will be fundamental in the motivation of walkers.
